Phone text message re ad on gumtree for sale of caravan from Greg or James Curtis
 Scammer
  Information
Name:
Greg
Email Address:
gregchappells404@gmail.com
We have an ad on Gumtree for the sale of our Caravan - posted this on Sunday 8th February 2015. We received a text to our phone number from Greg (gregchappells404@gmail.com), asking for our best price from a gmail account, and asking for a firm price that we wanted for the caravan.

We did not give email him, otherwise he would have our email address, and would start "phishing emails", which are "fake emails" where they email you fake emails from your bank, saying to log in using "fake email webpages" that look right and look as if you are logging on to the bank, but they obtain your password etc.

We received these recently through an ad on Ebay for the caravan - info as follows:

They also say that they are working in a company where they cannot use their phone, and tell you that they will deposit an extra $2,500 into your bank for collection of the vehicle - then they send you "fake" paypal emails (that look real and really go to the paypal page" showing that they have deposited this extra money - and they write "The money is out of my account already and i have reconfirmed the correct account number with paypal just now so they must have gotten to you with the confirmation of the payment.. You have to make sure you check your inbox and other folders such as junk or spam so as to be sure their message didn't slip in there and you can move it back to your inbox."

They then write:

Am sure there must have been lot of people trying to buy this from you
so i think offering you $8,250 wont be a bad idea.. I would have loved
to come for the inspection but i work in the army in which i have to
conduct Basic Combat Training and identical skills for all MOSs
(Military Occupational Specialties) this month so i’v got no spare time.
I have a pick up agent that will be picking this up after i have paid
you so there is nothing to worry about concerning picking it up. Get
back to me with your paypal email or bank details so i can transfer the
money as soon as i can..

regards,

James..

We wrote back that we want more.

He wrote:

Okay, i will pay $9,150, so tell every other person its been sold and
you can pull the listing away from eBay and get back to me with the
details so i can send the payment as soon as possible..

regards,

James..

Then 3 fake emails came from paypal - when you click these it looks as though t takes you to the actual site.

I have just sent the payment and i’v got the notification in which paypal said they have been in touch with you for the confirmation of the payment, so check your mail folders for that. The total payment is already out of my account because i sent it as a direct deposit so you can be satisfied and i also need to let you know that i added my pick up agents fees so that you can help me get them paid as soon as paypal as made all confirmations clear to you. My agents fees are to be paid to their Headquarters details below so you can send it through western union money transfer. I also included the western union charges and am sure you will find their outlet in any local post office around you.

Name: Linda L Wetherill

Get back to me with your contact details and destination where you will like the pick up to be made because my agent will be coming as soon as you have received the total funds in your account. I hope you will be able to get this done as soon as you can so that paypal can authorise the release of the payment into your account immediately.. You can as well send the details to me once you have it and i will forward it to them immediately.. thanks

After emailing back we have received fake emails from ANZ Bank (received on 6 Feb) saying that someone is hacking into our account, and to log in and change our passwords - lucky we weren't fooled again.
