When I first looked at this e-mail I thought "Just another scam." But then something calling itself a "Money Reference Number" caught my eye. so I decided to look at it a bit more. When I hovered over the link to the website, my screen got white washed and displayed a message saying
"Suspicious link
This link leads to an untrusted site. Are you sure you want to proceed to secure.moneygram?" So I backed away from that and looked up the MoneyGram Tracking website and entered the number and the senders last name. Low and behold, it actually pulled up a report for a money transfer that was in "Ready to be Picked Up" status. For a moment I was a little surprised. But then I noticed that the report had a date on it of 04/21/2017. That seemed to be a little fishy but I still printed out the report since I'm going to the store in a couple of days and will have a good opportunity to conveniently check it out. The store where has a MoneyGram service desk in it so it won't be out of my way and I can be there when they look it up and ask them questions if I need to.For now I haven't done anything with the e-mail except put it in a folder in my e-mail server. I also eventually found out that the link on the e-mail led to a dead website. And I guess if the money transfer turns out to have a positive outcome I'll have to come back here and update this post.
