Thanks a lot for the email. I am away at sea at the moment,i work with New Zealand Oil and Gas (NZOG) and we are presently offshore in New Zealand Taranaki Basin on Kapo project. We do not have access to phone at the moment,its 5days off and 25days on,which is why I contacted you with internet messaging facility. Where is it located at the moment?
I am buying it and i want it delivered before my arrival.I won't be able to come for the inspection due to the nature of my work and I would have called but our calling is restricted. It appears that Geoff is still trying to obtain Bank account details.
After listing a car on Gumtree this morning, received initial response, which seemed at first, of course, genuine. Then got the usual story re courier pickup/ and requesting bank account details.
This was reiterated, a couple of times. I of course, thought this was very unusual -why anyone in Exmouth , Western Australia would want to buy a car , from NSW (Sight unseen to boot). Hence following google search on Geoff, gave other identical stories. Just to advise "Geoff" is still attempting to obtain your Bank account details.

I has been contacted in regard of my Gumtree ad via Gumtree messenger with a direct email request from him.

After my response I received the same list of questions: the final price, bank details and a very "touching history" why he can`t talk by phone, can`t pick the item up and wants a courier to do this on him behalf...

I thought there is something strange to this history or in the way this person wants to purchase, but I have sent him my bank details to have a look what`s happened next.
After that it was one more message with a final (lowest) price confirmation and... ask about removing my add from Gumtree listing due to... he has nearly payed for that :)
And my idea to research his name connected to scam was successful :)
I`d like to know what exactly I have to do to protect my bank account against such people.
Should I do some extra or, just leave it as it is?
And actually... what is the reason for them and their "technology"???

Seems Mr Facer is a serial scammer. It just looked sus to me. Glad I checked it out. Below is email I received from him in regards to my Gumtree ad. -

This scammer with the name (Paul) replied to my gumtree add with exactly the same story (word for word) as already posted here. Offering to buy something and asking for payment details. Apparently, he then sends a courier to pick up the goods and the funds never clear.
