| Anonymous Greensboro, NC, United States 2013-06-17 14:18:39 Classified Ads Scam Autotrader (autotrader.com) | +12 Auto Sale Response from bmails000@gmail.com I listed my vehicle for sale on Autotrader.com and Craigslist.com. The first response I received was a text from \"John\" asking me to email him photo\'s of the engine to bmails000@gmail.com. When I sent him some pics of the email (which was an odd request because the add contained them already), the following is his response:
Thank you for getting back to me,can you assure me that i will not be
disappointed if i buy this Vehicle as a Birthday gift for my Dad? as
I\'m ready to pay your asking price but not cash in person because
I\'m an Oceanographer and i am presently on a contract which will end
in couple of months, the contract is strictly no call due to the lack
of reception on the sea area, but I\'m able to access my mail through
my laptop and my only quickest payment option is PayPal,its safe
fast and secure and i will be responsible for the pay pal transaction
charges so you can get your expected amount. If you don\'t have an
account with paypal, its pretty easy to open one,Just log on to
(www.paypal.com) and sign up.I hope we can make the purchase as fast
as possible? as my Dad\'s birthday is fast approaching,am sure he
will love this vehicle, his a mechanic and a handy man,so if there is
anything that need to be fixed in it just let me know he will handle
it. I have a mover that will come for the pick up once payment clears
in your account and he will handle the title for me.I look forward to
hear from you with the information below.

Got the same scammer today. Text with request to email pics of engine. Didn't think much about it because I hadn't posted those at Autotrader and the phone number, while not local, was in my state. I could see someone, if they were looking for something specific, enginewise, wanting to see that before driving 3 or four hours to look at a truck.
When I got the email, thougn, I knew it was a scam. First, he kept referring to it as a "car" and most people would say truck because that is what I was selling.
A quick google with keywords autotrader, paypal, and oceanographer confirmed it.
Feeling a bit mean, I emailed him a link to the Google Search Result page.

He's still at it. bmails000@gmail.com. Sent me a text asking for interior pics from my autotrader add be sent to his email. I replied that all the pics are posted. He came back and said the pics were blurry. Well, they are NOT. I googled his email address and found these postings on Scamdex describing exactly the same thing. What's up with this guy? Maybe he thinks that if you fall for this, you might be a candidate for falling for his primary scam.

Exact same message as the other guy today....
Found my ad on autotrader.com asked if available and to email him w/ pics of back and front or video. I thought this was strange considering the ad showed all sides, but I sent two videos of the vehicle.
After thinking it over, I googled his email and found all these scams. Same email address and same phone number as the other guy today. No response from "John" yet, but obviously it's a scam so I'll ignore him if he does respond.
I'm so glad that ppl post these to help other ppl out!! Thank you!!

Have my car for sale on AUTOTRADER. Received a text message "Am interested in your vehicle on AUTOTRADER., if still available reply to my email bmails000@gmail.com with the engine pics or video. John"
Thankfully, I Google every number that contacts me and the scam alerts for this number and email were plenty.

"John" sent me an email too requesting a picture or video of my engine. I did and got a response about him paying me what I asked thru paypal.
tip off, he never asked about any specifics about my car, mileage, etc.
I turned his email into Craigslist.org and Autotrader but from what I see he will just get another email and still do the scam. What a low life.

I listed my vehicle on AutoTrader yesterday. This morning I got a text from 650-653-8472, from "John" asking me to reply to his email address bmails000@gmail.com. As the original scam report noted, he asked me to send pics of the engine "or video". I had already included an engine pic in the AutoTrader ad. I'm in Pennsylvania and John's phone number area code is in California. Seemed unlikely to me that he'd be looking for a used car across the country. Also, his text message did not mention any specifics from the ad, like make, model, or price. I searched Google for the email address and phone number and was glad to find this site to confirm my suspicion.
