I posted a notice for renting a chalet in Switzerland and received two mails. The second one called my attention because of the unusual payment arrangement proposed. Upon checking the name in Google it appears this Joe Martins is a well known scammer.

\"Dear Sir,
The delegates have met today and your price offer is acceptable by us, however we have decided to lodge in your place for the period of 5th April - 27th April 2012 (22 days). Thanks for your replies and efforts.
We are going to make an advance full payment of your services costs, however the Sponsor of the Engineering workshop will send to you a certified company cheque of the amount 5,800 Euros plus bank charges to cover the cost of your accommodation services and other logistics arrangements required by the delegates for that whole period of the workshop.
Please provide your details so that you will receive the company\'s bank cheque and confirm our reservation with you;
(1). Your name of company as to appear on the cheque;
(2). Your address for the delivery of the cheque;
(3). Your valid telephone number for further correspondence;
(4). Your fax number if you have one;
Once you confirm the clearance of the cash in your account, you will receive instructions on what to do with the balance of the money. Your swift reply will be highly appreciated. Kindly note that the reason for sending the certified cheque payment is that our sponsor company has approved a memo that one certified cheque should be drawn to cover all our expenses to be incurred throughout the workshop programme.
Thanks for your usual co-operations.
Best regards,
