Avoid enquiries from rdickson007@yahoo.com
I advertised my car on gumtree and he will send an SMS asking to email him at rdickson007@yahoo.com, asking for the lowest asking price and history of the car. What was a bit fishy was that his mobile number only came up as \"car inquiry\" and you couldn\'t actually see the number, but I assumed it might have been because he enquired via gumtree and the message got sent via the website to my phone.
I did a search for the email address in case it was spam, but no results came up so I\'m assuming this email address is a new one being used by the scammer. Thinking it might be legit, I sent him an email with a general history of the car etc asking whether he wanted to inspect it.
He sent an email almost right away asking if he can PayPal the funds into my account, that he works long hours so doesn\'t need to inspect the car and is fine with the asking price etc - that should just bring on warning lights for anyone

I got exactly the same enquiry today. Had listed a vehicle for sale on Gumtree only hours earlier and got a SMS from "Car Inquiry" saying "Am interested in your car listed on gumtree pls get back to me with the lowest price and condition on my email address: rdickson007@yahoo.com" I emailed back with the relevant information and then I got the same email back saying he will buy the car (at full price) so consider it sold and to remove the ad, and will pay by paypal as its a safe mode of payment. Or preferred he could do direct deposit if I supply him with banking details. Because of his location and work load he would not be inspecting the car but knows it's what he wants by the ad details. He will send a courier agent to collect the vehicle once the funds were deposited. I smelt a rat straight away and worded a lengthy email back stating MY conditions of sale would be a face to face transaction and payment in cash. I also asked him for his address, phone number and drivers license number to organise roadworthy and UVP (but mainly to see if he was in fact legit). I gave him no further information such as paypal details or bank details. No further communication from him so definitely a scammer in action. One point is that my vehicle is being sold without rego or plates so I'm wondering if these are the types of vehicles he is targeting. I will now report this to gumtree as well.
