I advertised my motorcycle on gumtree and had exactly the same response. - ok no problem i will be paying you $8,500 with my PayPal account because it's attached to my bank account and its safe and very secure way to make payment. If my mode of payment is accepted just send me your paypal email address,(Paypal ID) or send me paypal payment request so i can pay in right away. Make sure you get back to me so that i can make the payment. I have a private courier agent that will handle the shipping after payments has been made, so no shipping included. OR better still you can just send me your bank account details and the payment will be made into your bank account asap. And if you dont have a paypal account, you can easily go to www.paypal.com and sign up. its very easy. i will call you later I await your reply asap you can consider it sold and you can remove the add. and tell others interested that its sold.
Due to the nature of my job and my location i will not be able to come for inspection am a very busy type as i work long hours everyday,i don't really think i need to come for a look, because i have gone through your advertisement and i am satisfied with it so i will call you when am chanced from work but as of now we can be chatting online or sending emails.

This exact same thing happened to me today. Same guy, email address, same copy/paste email, everything.
He contacted me through SMS, asking for the lowest price and the condition of the car to be emailed to him. I did that, and he replied with the copy/paste email. I was suspicious, so I asked him a bunch of questions (how to arrange courier, transfer of ownership etc) which he ignored. He just kept saying that the pickup will be arranged after I get the payment, and asking for my bank account details to deposit the money (as I had already mentioned I couldn't use PayPal due to them not supporting joint bank accounts).
As he kept ignoring my questions, I became more suspicious and searched his name online, and found this site.

This guy just contacted me too, regarding my advertisementon gumtree. The layout of his message reminded me of one of the old Nigerian Scam emails from years ago. A quick google pointed me here. I have reported this to gumtree.

He replied to my advert for a caravan and stated almost exactly what other posters have said. I did not get involved in any negotiation regarding my price but on a whim Googled his name and found this site. I'm glad I did as otherwise I may have been scammed.

Just received an SMS (as per other posters) asking for my 'best price and condition' to be sent to the email listed.
On a whim, I thought I'd search the net for anything and bingo! Scamdex is the top entry.
I won't bother replying.

Exactly the same email as above saying he'd put the $ through via PayPal etc... Just waiting for the followup email asking for money now

i was just about to make the payment when i had this little problem with the picking up, I got an email from my private courier agent..i taught i included that in my previous email.he said he won't come and pick up the item unless i pay him the agent commission fee first in order to be able to schedule a pick up time ,and my private courier head quarters is in (China) and all commission payments made for pick up, from anywhere in the world is sent to their headquarters in the China and the only form of payments they accept is western union money transfer and i tried to pay online but i will need my bank card which i dont have here with me and there is no post office(there is usually a western union section in most post offices) or any western union agent shop. So i have to ask you to help me with the pick up fees, i will include the $1,000 they charged to pick it up to the payments i will send through to you now so i will need you to help me send the $1,000 to my courier agent through western union money transfer. The western union money transfer can be made at a post office near to you, there is always a western union agent in most post offices or online at www.westernunion.com. I will be making the payments shortly and will email you as soon as it has been done.
