| Anonymous Brisbane, Queensland, Australia 2014-03-04 06:56:42 Classified Ads Scam Gumtree | Response to "Gumtree" Advertisement for a Caravan I had a response to an ad in Gumtree for a caravan. This \"Peter Rich\" (obviously TRYING to get rich) wanted to buy our 2nd hand caravan, sight-unseen, and asked me to provide HIM with a PayPal email address, name etc. Claims he is a \"Tool Pusher on the West Aquarius Semi-Submersible\" - obviously just a tool himself, and can only make contact by email. Also claimed he could NOT perform an Internet Banking Transfer or get a Bank Cheque, yet he can access the internet to look at Gumtree and to send emails. Said he wanted to go ahead and purchase and send a private courier to collect - but never once mentioned the caravan he supposedly wanted to buy, and he never asked any questions pertaining to it. All sounds very doubtful.
I replied that he would need to be present at some stage, to sign the Transfer of Registration paperwork, and we would not provide any PayPal account details, as we were not accepting payment that way. Even if we did accept payment via PayPal, the Seller has to send the buyer a PayPal Invoice and then the buyer pays, so it was suspicious that he was asking for details that he didn\'t need. I have not heard back from the Scammer. Just ignore altogether if you receive an email like this. |
