| Sick of it San Francisco, CA, United States 2012-03-02 23:23:49 Classified Ads Scam Craigslist (craiglist.com) | +1 Craigslist Scammers I have been approached at least 50 times by scammers with every concievable story. Pay pal info, make money at home, bank info, remove my advert, the shipper who will come pick up the item, pay me more, etc. I since have made it clear with each email my products will not leave my premises without green back American dollars in my hand & they hardly ever email back once they realize you are on to them. Its just that elderly & younger people could really be taken in by this. Seems Craiglist & such should really try harder to prevent this fraud. Watch out for GMAIL email & YAHOO!!! Make a scammer alert & post on your ad & your return email, if it offends them they had no intention of buying anything! |

I agree. The problem with eBay/Craiglist etc is that they are so terrified of:
1) Getting and having to deal with the enormous number of complaints they would receive if they had a simple system for reporting scammers.
2) Potentially frightening away people by showing how easy it is to use these services for immoral gain.
3) Terror of not getting so many clicks/listings/bidders/views if they put any form of validation or sensible signup precautions in place prior to listing/bidding.
At the end of the day, it's all about money - these services are there primarily to make money out of whoever has some left and they leave the cleanups to local efforts (like Scamdex).
