I have a car for sale on cars.com and craigslist.org and was contacted about the car via a strange text message from phone number (804)476-2749:

---------------------------------------
Pls messsagee me on jonzlws @gmail. com to cconfirm the A.Amounnt and A.Availabbiliity of your AAutommobile.e advvertt. \"Txt STOP 2 end\"
---------------------------------------

More curious than convinced, I emailed the address and received this reply:

---------------------------------------
Hello,

Thanks for your response. I am interested in the immediate purchase. I will take it for the price you\'ve mentioned and I will gladly cover PayPal charges from my end.

I can only make the payment via paypal because it\'s very safe and secure for both of us. In case you don\'t have a paypal account I\'ll advice you to register for one at paypal.com. I have a private pick-up agent that will contact you in-order to handle the pick-up at any location of your choice once the payment is completed.

Question: I\'ll like you to tell me more about the present mechanical condition, how often do you service it, mechanical history, have you ever experience any mechanical problem with it before and why are you selling it?

Look forward to reading from you at your earliest convenience.

Best Regards,
Tyler.

I responded with the maintenance details and received another email from \"Tyler\":

Thanks for the info. I\'m very much interested and I want you to know that you don\'t have to surf around looking for buyers because you\'ve just found one. This is a gift for my Dad in Idaho, I hope you understand my eagerness to complete this transaction a.s.a.p...?

I am presently at work in Auckland and won\'t be back until the 21st of July. Once I transfer the payment, the person handling the pickup will contact you in-order to setup a date and location for pickup and he will also be of assistance concerning the change of ownership by presenting all the documents needed to complete the change of ownership.

This transaction is based on HUGE amount of trust and I expect to see this from your end as it is on mine.

Follow Ups/Extra Information. Most recent is listed first.
I received a strange text regarding a vehicle that I have for sale:
text from (805) 319-7205
"concerninggg your aaauto ad. on the iinternett. Msg me at ( anztyler4 @ gmail .com )to ccconfirm the aaavailabilityyy and pppricee."
So out of curiousity I sent an email to anztyler4@gmail.com
"I received an automated message that you were interested in the car that I have for sale. I am not sure which ad or car you are referring to. I have a Honda CRV and Porsche 944 both listed on AutoTrader, Cars.com and Classifieds.com.
Please let me know if the text I received was legitamite and if you are interested. I have had a few text messages that were phishing so I just want to make sure."
I got the following response from a completely different email address mantyler9@gmail.com:
"Honda CRV"
then another:
"The text was sent by me."
So I replied: "Ok are you interested? Do you have any questions? It is still available."
His Response: "Yes I am. Can you please confirm the amount you'll like to sell it...?"
I thought this was strange considering the price is right on my Cars.com ad. But I replied: "It is listed below blue book value at this point because I am just trying to sell it. There was a death in the family so I am trying to sell his car. The asking price was originally $10,200 but the asking price on Autotrader and Cars.com is now $9850. Are you local? It is an SE version so it is the higher version. There are a bit of miles on it but they are highway. I am pretty sure that they just put new tires on the vehicle. If you are local you are welcome to come and look at the car. It is leather interior with heated seats. There is no rust at all. They took very excellent care of the vehicle. Let me know."
His response: "I am interested in the immediate purchase. I will take it for the price you've mentioned and I will gladly cover PayPal charges from my end. Didn't I just tell him there was a death in the family and I was selling his car?? Anyways I responded: "I will have to send you a PayPal invoice and wait for funds to clear before it can be shipped. All of the shipping would need to be paid for on your end as I cannot pay for anything on my end. There haven't been able mechanical issues that I am aware of. There hasn't been any need to service outside of regular oil changes that were done. He purchased the car used from a dealership and had not had to take it in for service in the 3 years that he owned it (he purchased it used.) Should I send the paypal invoice to this email? It will also include the Paypal transaction fee of 2.7% + $0.30. I have actually had a bad experience with someone adding the shipping charges but the money never went into my account. That is why i say that I cannot pay anything out of pocket and won't be able to allow for it to be picked up or sign the title until Paypal verifies the money is in the account and available so I can give to the family.
The shipper can contact me via this email to arrange a location pickup but I will notify them once the family confirms that the funds are available.
I hope this will work for you. Otherwise I think the family is going to just try and sell it back to the dealer because there have just been too many fraudulent inquiries and they are very nervous."
So at this point is sounds legit to me especially with his response below: "Thanks for the info. I'm very much interested and I want you to know that you don't have to surf around looking for buyers because you've just found one. This is a gift for my Dad in Idaho, I hope you understand my eagerness to complete this transaction a.s.a.p...?

So I sent him the invoice and haven't heard from him since. What is the point of this scam? I don't get it? I am worried about these people hacking into my PayPal account.
