I placed a classified ad on my local TV stations web site, KSL.com classifieds. I received a text asking if the items were available and to reply via email to tomshedy01@gmail.com. I thought it was odd that it was requested to email and not reply by text. I was curious, so I emailed him. The response I got was bizarre:
Okay i will pay your asking price, and will not able to pay via cash,
so due to that i will be paying you via check .Will ask my mover\'s to
come for the pick up at your location after payment cleared.
I decided to play along, and agreed. Then got this response:
I presume we seal this a deal? I got your full name and contact address. I will be given my assistance to go ahead to mail the payment to the address you provided and your email. pick up and mover\'s fee will be included in your payment, upon cash of check, you\'ll make the pick up money payable to my movers as soon as you cash the funds. Kindly delete the posting as am totally committed to buying from you to save me cost,my mover will be coming over for the pick up right only after the payment as been delivered
Totally suspicious at this point, I Googled his name and found out it is a scam. Don\'t fall for it!!!! |

Placed a sale ad on craigslist, received a text today from tomshedy01@gmail.com requesting that I respond to his email address. I thought it strange since I had requested a phone call. I saw that his phone number was (682) area code and thought it could be a new way to do a scam. Im glad I thought to google him since he is a waste of time. Not sure what he hopes to gain from this type of scam?
Scam EmailHis phone number on my text is 682.514.5077

Also got these text and follow on emails from the same number/email addresses for a craigslist ad. Same exact emails, word for word as above. I told him I was uncomfortable with the process and preferred a phone call to clarify the arrangements. He replied that he would call right away. I never received the call, but instead an email:
"Good Morning XXXXXXXX,I will like to inform you that payment will delivered to you today via USPS here is the tracking number (XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX),the excess funds included in the payment is for my movers which you have to send to this info via Money Gram..Receivers Name : Amber Stogner, Address : 2402 Archbishop Hannan Blvd, Meraux, LA 70075.also deduct $50 for yourself meant for the hassle and run around,Kindly get back to me asap. Best Regards,"
I looked up the tracking and it was coming out of York, PA. He wants me to send "money gram" to Lousiana. The english of all the emails is strange, everything reeks, i just told him that we are only selling in person, cash on pick up.

Same scam as listed by previous person. Text message received asking to reply to gmail address. Then I received an email stating " Okay I will pay your asking price and will not be able to pay via cash, so due to that I will be paying you via check. Will ask my mover's to come for the pick up at your location after payment cleared. I did not bother to respond.
