I posted an ad for a piece of exercise equipment on St. Louis Craigslist and had an exchange with a person who, after a little searching, turns out is a scam artist that uses very similar language in their dealings. They want to send a check with additional funds for their movers, whom they want you to pay via \"money gram\" along with $50 extra for your hassle. I\'m not sure if Renewable NRG Systems is a legit business, but this person who seems to operate under different names is shady. I said that I was uncomfortable paying his movers on his behalf but if he wanted to pay them in advance I would be happy to do business. He sent the check in the mail anyway with this email as followup:

Good Morning ,I will like to inform you that payment will delivered to you today via USPS,the excess funds included in the payment is for my movers which you have to send to this info via Money gram Receivers Name : Amber Stogner Address : 2402 Archbishop Hannan Blvd, Meraux, LA 70075.also deduct $50 for yourself meant for the hassle and run around,Kindly get back to me asap. Best Regards, Matin Johnson

I\'m posting other exchanges with this person to help you identify the scammer:

Okay i will pay your asking price,and will not able to pay via cash, so due to that i will be paying you via check .Will ask my mover\'s to come for the pick up at your location after payment cleared. Okay,Reply with your Full Name and Full Address with mobile number where payment should be sent ,The payment will arrive within 2-3 business days As soon as the check clears, we can talk about the picking up of the item.....dont forget to take the posting off the site

and:
I presume we seal this a deal? pick up and mover\'s fee will be included in your payment, upon cash of check, you\'ll make the pick up money payable to my movers as soon as you cash the funds and my movers would arrange appropriate time for pick up at your location as i have other properties to be moved and i want you to consider the item sold and keep off other interested buyers. I believe this is based on trust and i will like you to respond back as soon as possible so i can proceed with the payment.

Beware, and remember to always trust your gut! If something seems a little out of place or not quite right, don\'t be afraid to investigate or push back.
