| Rental Scam! He posted a 3 bedroom rental unit on Trulia.com asking $800 a month. Very cheap for the area! Already skeptical, I inquired asking why it was so cheap. He responded right away saying his wife and him were moving to IL to do work with an HIV/Aids prevention center. I looked it up, it existed. He just wanted someone to look over the house while they were living out of the state. They were originally selling the house and then decided to rent it out so they could move back eventually (so "if there are for sale signs on the house, disregard because they will be taken down.") We e-mailed back and forth with an informal rental application (that he accepted right away). He also asked for my phone number and would send me texts saying things like, "you were god sent to take care of our property. Please do not let us down. We have accepted you into our family"... etc. Started to sound stranger and stranger always using religious persuasion at the end of each message. He asked me to put $800 in an account that was not his name (Tye Beeker) who lived in Arkansas and I would then be sent a key and house documents via FedEx the next day. He said if I did not like the house, I could send the key back and I would be refunded the money. Sounded great but since his name was Steve, not Tye, and lived in Illinois, not Arkansas, I decided to drive by the house to ask the neighbors about the "Nissen Family". The "for sale" sign outside was still there only this time said "sale pending." I called the relator and she told me it was never for rent. |
