I am currently advertising a motorbike for sale on Motorcycle News website. I get a text from a supposedly interested party - whats the lowest price of ur motorbike? plz email thru evansmax@outlook.com. email only tnx.

I recognise this as a scam but decide to play along to see how it pans out.

A few emails exchanged, see below :-

Thanks mate for your details, the asking price & conditions is ok l'm buying it for my son as a gift ,I won't be able to Inspect due to the nature of my work overseas, would 've love to call in person but satellite server has been down which restrict calls,l'm presently working on offshore as a petroleum engineering.
Regarding your payment, Plz get back to me with your paypal details in order for me to make payment to you cos that my only method of payment, my courier will contact you for pick it up and deliver it in my place after payment has been made to you.
Would appreciate if you can email me any pictures of it (if available)Plz send PayPal details for me to send money to you ASAP.
And another email below :-

Thanks Mate,
I will let you know as soon as the payment has been made and also make use of this opportunity to contact my courier pickup agent to make sure they arrange time and date for the pickup, I want a quick sales and would want you to take down listing from the website in order for me to know you have it reserve for me :) please confirm the final price again before l proceed with payment, will email back in few hours once payment has been made, get back asap

Then finally the scam comes, see below email :-

I was just about to pay when i had this problem with the pick up, my pick up agent says l will need to pay for the pick up fees before they can schedule a pick up time, they charged me £300 for pick up and delivery, and payments for pick up made through them is made to their corporate international headquarters which is in China, the payments is made through western union money transfer, l will add the sum of £300 to the money l will be sending through PayPal now, as soon as l have made the payments, l will email you and let you know, Please l will need you to help me send the money to my pick up agent Hq in China through western union money transfer, this can be done at any Western Union Outlet or post office ,there is always western union money transfer section outlet around you (you can also do it online at www.westernunion.com)...,l would have done it myself but as l am at sea and l forget to bring my credit card aboard, l am a little incapacitated. I will appreciate your help here.

So the above is the scam, asking for me to pay the £300 for him to get the bike shipped, needless to say I didn't pay.
I think the next stage is some fake PayPal emails saying the money is in my account, but I got fed up and sent some snotty emails instead.

Follow Ups/Extra Information. Most recent is listed first.
Same as other member contact by text to motorcycle ad suggesting PayPal and courier collection. Same oil platform story. Lack of Internet etc. contacted Motorcycle News who suggested I ignore it and accept cash on collection only. I suggested I would want cash and proof of identity by passport as well as driving licence and insurance. Strangely the recipient never replied.

Scam Email
I never got to the attempted stage but was warned it can be used to obtain access to your Paypal account. The English vocabulary used is very poor and reads as Pidgin English.
