An ad for a boat first showed up on Seattle Craigslist for a great price on a Thursday. I emailed the offerer right away for details and before i even got a response it was flagged for removal. The following Tuesday, i got the following email:

Hello,
My name is Patricia, and I\'m emailing you about the Bayliner Ciera I have for sale. The boat is in perfect condition, with no need for any additional repairs. Flawless condition, no dents and no mechanical problems. It has never been in salt water. Has a Mercury 5.7 lt V8 motor with only 250 hours on it and it comes with trailer and all the extras included. It has a clear title with no loans or liens on it. The price was reduced at $4,800. Because of my divorce settlement, i own this boat and as a woman i don`t need it so i`m trying to get rid of it as soon as possible (that`s why i`m selling it so cheap).
I! f you have any other questions, or need more info, please feel free to ask.

Than! k you,
Patricia

Hi there,
As I told you in my first email, I recently got divorced. I got a new job and moved to Topeka KS for a new start. The boat is already at the shipping company in Topeka sealed and ready for the shipping. My presence won\'t be necessary because I prearranged the deal with Amazon. The deal includes free delivery and it will arrive at your address in 3 days. You will have 5 days to test it and inspect it prior to making any purchase and if by any reason you find something you don\'t like about it you can send it back at my expense.
If you are interested in knowing more info about how it works, i can ask Amazon to send you an email with more information on how to purchase it. Amazon will contact you shortly after they have the details with all the information that you need to complete this deal and you will also have proof that I am covered by them and a legitimate seller. If you would like to receive the email from Amazon will all the transaction! information please reply with your full name and phone # and they will contact you right away.

Regards

I got suspicious of course. When i checked on-line, i found out that several lines in the original email where commonly used in a very similar scam - usually involving someone claiming to be a soldier in Afghanistan. In particular the lines - \"Flawless condition, no dents and no mechanical problems.\" and \"It has a clear title with no loans or liens on it.\" are often seen.

I'm in the Atlanta area and found an add on Craigs list... This is the first email from said person:
Hello, My name is Patricia, and I'm emailing you about the Baja Force I have for sale. The boat is in perfect condition, with no need for any additional repairs. Flawless condition, no dents and no mechanical problems. It has never been in salt water. Has a Chevrolet 454 330HP engine with 460 hours on it and it comes with trailer and all the extras included. It has a clear title with no loans or liens on it and is under my name. The price was reduced at $3,500. Because of my divorce settlement, i own this boat and as a woman i don`t need it so i`m trying to get rid of it as soon as possible (that`s why i`m selling it so cheap). If you have any other questions, or need more info, please feel free to ask. Thank you, Patricia
