Had my car advertised on line and received this text, I am interested in your car ad, how much are you willing to sell it.
email me at helvisdatford@gmail.com with the firm price and condition.
I replied to the email and then received this response.
Thanks for getting back,i'm cool with the price likewise the condition as described on the advert,i work with New Zealand Oil and Gas (NZOG) and we are presently offshore in New Zealand Taranaki Basin on kupe project. We do not have access to phone at the momement and that's why I contacted you with internet messaging facility.Regarding the payment,i will be paying you through PayPal linked up with my westpac bank account, please get back to me with your paypal details so i can process the payment, you can alternatively send your bsb acct name and number if you have no PayPal acct.I have also contacted my courier who will come for pick up and deliver it to my place in Darwin after the whole fund has been cleared into your acct.
Await your reply.
Something didn't sit right with me about this text and email so I googled Helvis Datford and discovered that it is a scam. Someone who is buying a car without negotiating on the price and buying it sight un seen is a bit too far fetched. Needless to say I did not bother responding to his email.

I advertised a boat for sale in Gumtree, got a txt message to my mobile asking me how much I would accept and to reply to helvisdatford@gmail.com. I replied with an e-mail stating that "$500 FIRM and first to see will buy.............
The phone # above is where the text message came from and his response is below.
I replied with another e-mail asking if "your" courier will collect the boat, please have them deliver the cash to me.
I did not get a reply and decided to Google his name and this is what I have discovered!
Thanks for mailing back,am ok with the price and the condition.I'm at sea at the moment as petroleum engineer on a rig offshore,i won't be able to come for the inspection due to the nature of my work and i would have called but our calling is restricted.Regarding the payment, pls get back to me with your paypal details so i can process the payment, you can alternatively send your bsb and acct number if you have no paypal acct.I have also contacted my courier who will come for pick up after the whole fund has been cleared into your acct.

Since you’re here …
we have a small favour to ask. More people are visting Scamdex and Scamalot than ever but advertising revenues are falling fast and we have no 'product' to sell.
And unlike many informational websites, we haven’t put up a paywall or membership barrier – we want to keep our site as open as we can.
So you can see why we need to ask for your help. Scamdex/Scamalot websites takes a lot of time, money and hard work to keep running. We do this because we
hate to see our fellow humans getting scammed out of their hard-earned money by low-lives.
