| Melissa Findlay Perth, Western Australia, Australia 2012-09-09 11:00:15 Classified Ads Scam Gumtree | +1 Service@paypal.com.au via email kingohi5@gmail.com I advertised a treadmill for AU $1200 on Gumtree and was contacted 2x\'s by 2 different people using the same agent details in Malaysia. They had said they had sent $1700 inclusive of freight costs and I would need to do a Western Union Money Transfer of AU $500.
They have used an alias for the email kingohi5@gmail.com as service@paypal.com.au with convincing information and graphics. It has been confirmed by PayPal that this is a scam and now the scammer is threatening legal action as they have notified the FBI and Australia Police Department (which is not correct as we have the Australian Federal Police) Unfortunately they have my bank details and phone number and address.I have notified my bank and Paypal Australia. |

Have just been scammed by a 'Ross Hatfield', wanting to purchase a sofa i had for sale on Gumtree. Said he would deposit the cost of sofa plus $700 freight costs to Singapore. I would then need to send the extra $700 to the shipping company. Then he said that he would deposit the funds via pay pal into my bank account and to check my emails for pay pal confirmation (which was obviously a fake one he had created). The email didnt arrive into my inbox, luckily, he kept saying check your junk mail. After 3 days with no money in my account he started demanding i put the $700 into the shippers Western Union account. I started getting suspicious and found this website with Ross hatfields name mentioned. Like the other lady, i have given all my personal banking details and address. I will also report to paypal and Gumtree.
Since you’re here …
we have a small favour to ask. More people are visting Scamdex and Scamalot than ever but advertising revenues are falling fast and we have no 'product' to sell.
And unlike many informational websites, we haven’t put up a paywall or membership barrier – we want to keep our site as open as we can.
So you can see why we need to ask for your help. Scamdex/Scamalot websites takes a lot of time, money and hard work to keep running. We do this because we
hate to see our fellow humans getting scammed out of their hard-earned money by low-lives.
