I got an E-Mail from Kathleen Jackson referencing the job I had applied to on smartrecruiters.com. She asked me to set up a Yahoo IM account to be interviewed online (first red flag) for the position. The interview was to be with Sarah Brad.
I set up a Yahoo account, and got interviewed the next day by Sarah Brad. She told me the job was $14.00/hr for training and then $25.00/hr and I could work at home. They would send me a check to get the software I needed. After a while she told me I was hired, and that HR would be sending me some paperwork to fill out.
I thought I was smart because I didn\'t give out my SS#. I also thought I was smart because I did a web search on Bilcare Research and it looked like a real company. I even found employee reviews of the job.
I followed up with Sarah the next morning, and she then asked me to get check-writing software and MICR ink. She said she could begin to train me as soon as I had this stuff. She wanted me to get on the internet and find the closest store which I could get these things. She asked how many minutes it would take for me to get back to her. All the red flags were flying. I told her I would get back to her when I had it. She could be waiting a long time.
I called the local police who gave me a number for economic crime. I left a message there and was called back quickly. Yes, Virginia, this is a scam.
The officer told me to just stop now, because I could have gotten involved in a check fraud scam. She told me to not contact them again, even if I wanted to tell them off. So I deleted all the Yahoo IM and other stuff. She does have my name, address, phone number, and E-Mails, but no more. I wish she didn\'t have that much.
OK, I feel like a fool. It\'s hard to keep up hope when you are really looking for a job. But, at least I\'m not a criminal fool.
