I wasn't scammed but thought I should use this e-mail as an example to show what to look for.
"Exxon-Mobil Promotion" <--not Exxon's website www.exxonmobil.com (no subject)<---odd To <---also odd You have won €500,000.00 in the on-going EXXON-MOBIL Email Promotion Award 2012. Send your full names, address, Phone no. and Verification No.:EM-389-6373,FGN/P-073-92 to Mr William Weber, exxnmobloilgas@wss-id.org, or call the customer's service no. on +33762248609 for more details. ©2012
Always be weary of winning things you did not sign up for. Now a break down of the e-mail. First line of message there is no currency value e.g. $€£ Second line several grammatical errors Full names? Plural. Also didn't fully spell number. Big companies like to show some professionalism. Third line has no job title also odd. Fourth line the e-mail address completely misspelled Exxon Mobil and the domain wss-id.org is for windows server system Indonesia. That's a dead give away not only can Exxon afford its own e-mail server but it's a company and would have a .com not a .org. Fifth line I'm pretty sure Exxon would also have a US 1800 phone number. If the number seems odd google the country code. Sixth line is just a copyright symbol, no all rights reserved Exxon or any thing like that. These are all things to look for when a suspicious"You're a Winner" e-mail comes. Also its a good idea to check the link by right clicking and viewing the source code. Any suspicious domain such as wss-I'd. . .should be googled.

Since you’re here …
we have a small favour to ask. More people are visting Scamdex and Scamalot than ever but advertising revenues are falling fast and we have no 'product' to sell. Scamdex/Scamalot websites takes a lot of time, money and hard work to keep running. We do this because we hate to see our fellow humans getting scammed out of their hard-earned money by low-lives.
