Thank you for your email. This 2000 MERCEDES ML 270 CDI is currently located in Invernes because I just finished the divorce with my wife and I have moved here. My car is in perfect condition, very well maintained with no issues.
I\'m asking £2100 for a fast sale + £100 for delivery. Due to my job (working on a oil rig) pick up is not possible but we can use eBay\'s services. Using their services you have 3 days to inspect the car before paying me and I\'ll be sure that I have a genuine buyer who won\'t mess me around. You\'ll get the chance to inspect the car, test it and everything you like while your money are safely held in eBay\'s account. ONLY after you confirm with eBay that you agree to keep the car, they\'ll release the money to me. In case you don\'t like the car you get a full refund.
Email me back with your delivery address so i can register the transaction and eBay will send you all the info regarding payment and delivery.

The car is currently located in Elgin, IV30 1HY because I just finished the divorce with my wife and I have moved here. My car is in perfect working condition, very well maintained with no issues. No pets, non smoking car. It has never been involved in any accidents and comes with full service history.
The asking price is £3,000 for a fast sale + £150 which will be the delivery fees. Due the fact that i work on a oil rig (North Sea oil fields, Rowan Gorilla platform, more exactly) I can't meet you but we can use Google's services. Using their services you have 3 days to inspect the car before paying me and I'll be sure that I have a genuine buyer who won't mess me around.

I have briefly described Google's transaction steps below:
1. Buyer, Seller reach an agreement (price and delivery conditions) ; 2. Buyer sends the payment to Google and they inform the seller that the payment was received ; 3. Seller delivers the vehicle ; 4. Buyer accepts delivery and informs Google about the acceptance ; 5. Google releases the money to seller.
You'll get the chance to inspect the car, test it and everything you like while your money are safely held into Google's account. ONLY after you confirm with Google that you agree to keep the car, they'll release the money to me. If, for any reason you don't want to keep the car you will get a full refund from Google.( I'm sure it will not be be the case ).

The car is currently located in Elgin, IV30 1HY because I just finished the divorce with my wife and I have moved here. My car is in perfect working condition, very well maintained with no issues. No pets, non smoking car. It has never been involved in any accidents and comes with full service history.
The asking price is £3,000 for a fast sale + £150 which will be the delivery fees. Car ad on Gumtree pretending to be a genuine seller.
I received the following email after enquiring regarding the location - the advert specifies Lancs, but the reply email mentions Inverness.
Also, the email footer looks to be the real company logo (as seen when visiting www.rowan-companies.com).

The car is currently located in Elgin, IV30 1HY beacause I just finished the divorce with my wife and I have moved here. My car is in perfect working condition, very well maintained with no issues. No pets, non smoking car. It has never been involved in any accidents and comes with full service history.
The asking price is £26,000 for a fast sale + £150 which will be the delivery fees. Due the fact that I work on a oil rig (North Sea oil fields, Rowan Gorilla platform, more exactly) I can't meet you but we can use Google's services. Using their services you have 3 days to inspect the car before paying me and I'll be sure that I have a genuine buyer who won't mess me around.

Mike has scammed over 6 of us so far and is still operating. Barclays have failed to take action BUT if you can provide some details of your case I will be taking this further - to Barclays, The Financial Ombudsman, Watchdog and if necessary to the Press!
Please advise the dates that you reported the account below to Barclays and if you too have received a 'standard response' which states that you are entitled to take this to the Ombudsman to resolve (but Barclays will do NOTHING to take this further)

Got scammed out of £7600 by Mike Preston - paid the funds into a Barclays Bank account:

We reported it to Barclays who refuse to help. If anyone else has paid into this account and reported it to Barclays, can you please post when it was done as they claim not to have any knowledge of this but from the posts on here I can see that it is not the case.

Do not buy anything off these people, they are a bunch of con artists advertising used cars very very cheap asking you to use ebay. google, amazon payment services by putting money into dodgh bank accounts either Barclays or Spanish. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THEM OR PAYBTHEM ANY MONEY-THERE IS NO CAR!!!! ITS A SCAM.

20-29-41/ 63463990 this bank account is held at Station Rd, Edgware,London and 20-32-00 / 80613894 is for an account held at 128 Moorgate, London.
I would like know and will be enquiring why Barclays Bank are allowing crooks to scam people through their accounts.

I have been scammed by this conman on 30 Nov 2012 for a vauxhall corsa advertised in GUMTREE Gloucs, same kiinda scenario, divorced but the car is in Scotland, he works on a oil rig etc.....the car would be delivered to me Wed 5 Dec (yesterday) after 5pm. i paid £2000 + £100 for delivery.... No car has arrived MIKE PRESTON is not responding to emails. I shall contact Barclays and the police tomorrow, as I shall try and get my money back. Please contact me if anyone else has fallen foul of this conman...... I have read the other posts here and I wish I had goggled his email before I parted with my money..... I shall send an email to the other two posters here, we need to join forces and catch these gang of crooks and stop them conning other innocent folk.
Mike Preston has emailed me to say ' the delivery truck broke down and the vauxhall corsa will be delivered on Sat 8 Dec, he will refund me £300 for the inconvenience' I am now in contact with 2 others who has also been scammed... I am reporting this scam to Watchdog... Please can more people also report this to Watchdog, we need to put a stop to this.
I also believe he using Michael Torres on Gumtree advertising new cars etc.....

Like everyone who has been conned by Mike Preston, I am slowly getting annoyed with Barclays bank because they refuse to do anything about this person who is committing fraud and using their institution to commit it. I would have thought that they would try to protect us who are trying to retrieve our hard earned money than him (or them).
From the different reports here on scamdex, it appears he has several accounts with the bank. Spoke with action fraud and was advised that the more people who report this incident to them, the more likely they will follow through with the investigation.
I have filed a complaint with Barclays and awaiting a response from them. I am pretty sure I will not be happy with their reply so I am gearing up to take it further with the Ombudsman. Anyone who would like to join me, feel free to get in touch. For my protection, I will be using another email address to filter incoming mail. I think there is a a group of unlawful people operating this scam and not just one person. Drop me a note at scammedbympreston@hotmail.co.uk

2004 Mercedes ML500 Located in Inverness due to a divorce. He works on the oil rigs wanted £2400 £100 del wanted to use ebays services. We fell for it recevied emails from what we thought was ebay giving account details to pay into. Barclays Bank account no: 63463990 sort code 20-29-41 beneficiary: Tomasz Nowak. We paid the money and got emails from him to say delivery would be on Monday that we would get a call from the shipping company a hour before delivery got email from ebay saying I had buyer protection, even spoke to a customer services on ebay live chat or thats what I thought! he then sent email to say he lost internet connection and the shipping company's vehicle broke down they would re deliver on Thursday. It never came. Contacted ebay by phone they advised they would never send email they only talk through ebay accounts. Went back to Barclays bank who would not give me any info due to the data protection act, I paid 1p into the account and it went in so the account was still active. Went to the poilce and Action Fraud. No one was keen to help Barclays wont even red flag the account untill Action Fraud contact them. Action Fraud told me they might not even investigate this! No wonder there is so much of it going on. I was so foolish if I had googled his name I would have seen the other stories about him but more fool me. Hope this helps other people from getting scammed.
