| Sara Parker Hampstead, Camden, United Kingdom 2016-09-06 16:53:54 Classified Ads Scam Gumtree | +1 Gumtree classifed ads for room rental I received a text message requesting that I email details of a room advertised on Gumtree. The text read:
'Hi, I have keen interest in renting ur unit listed on rental web so send more details/photos directly to seeker2leader@gmail.com Pls I prefer email only'
I emailed a link to the advertisement with photos as requested. I received a strange email in return as follows:
'Hello,
Thanks for getting back to me. I am a simple, cool and non-smoker lady. I am willing to rent the unit as I am at sea at the moment as i am a Coastguard Agency employee in USA but i was Born and brought up in Phang Nga, Thailand. I am coming to study and I will work part-time down there but due to the nature of my work, phone calls making and visiting of website are restricted. I only squeezed out time to check this advert and send you an email regarding this. i am ready to rent it asap so tell me how much is the rent/share per month and how much deposit do i have to pay. Please send me more period you wish to rent this out, I have attached my photo with this email for you to have a view of me.
Looking forward to read back from you soon
Regards'
All the requested information was already in the ad so that and the content of the email raised suspicions. There was also a photo attachment of a young Thai girl which thankfully I never opened. |

Sujira contacted me via text message after reading my Kijiji ad for selling our acreage. This person claimed to be at sea at the moment as a Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) employee in USA, therefore had little access to phone and wanted to use email. As it progressed he/she sent me a letter of intent (which I couldn't open) and asked me to take it off the market because she/he intends to buy it. In the last email this person's "realtor" was in Geneva and so was proceeding with it on his/her own and planned to send me 25% as a down payment to show she/he was serious, and asked me for my PayPal account info or bank account info. She/he didn't seem to care where my acreage was located, wanted to know how much I was asking, and then without me answering, was willing to pay the asking price. She/he ignored other important information in the emails I sent back to her as well. I was advised by my agency to ignore further communications, which I plan to do.

Since you’re here …
we have a small favour to ask. More people are visting Scamdex and Scamalot than ever but advertising revenues are falling fast and we have no 'product' to sell.
And unlike many informational websites, we haven’t put up a paywall or membership barrier – we want to keep our site as open as we can.
So you can see why we need to ask for your help. Scamdex/Scamalot websites takes a lot of time, money and hard work to keep running. We do this because we
hate to see our fellow humans getting scammed out of their hard-earned money by low-lives.
