Messenger I was selling a car on Craigslist. The phisher contacted me via SMS sent through Yahoo! messenger, so there was no phone number. He went by the name of s.cott4u, and unfortunately was very careful not to divulge information. I figured he was a scam right off, and tried to string him along and get more information, but neither of us got anywhere. He wanted PayPal information from me, I presume to concoct an overpayment scam or something of the like. He claimed to be offshore (not actually unheard of in my part of the country) and needed a third party to pick the car up after he paid. He made no attempt to haggle on price, and refused my suggestion that he wire his funds to his trusted third party, who could then bring me the cash, rather than me take a chance on PayPal. All of that sent up what red flags weren\'t already raised. |
