| Anonymous Swansboro, NC, United States 2011-08-04 16:39:32 Classified Ads Scam Other Auction site | +2 DealDay.com charge scam DealDay.com is an auction site. I entered the site out of curiosity. You have to register and give your credit card number to shop. I registered, looked around, and canceled my registration. My next VISA bill had a $99.99 charge. I protested and was told that I had authorized the $99.99 for the privilege of using the site for 30 days. (I\'m an experienced internet shopper and I do not recall being asked to authorize the amount.) The amount of course is non-refundable. If a seasoned old internet veteran like me got taken so easily, they must be getting lots of others. |

i've read your info on dealday.com and was scammed by them as well. assuming my credit card information would only be used when i made a purchase on dealday, i filled out the form. since then they've billed by credit card on 2 occasions for $39.99. no where, no where, was it made clear that there was a membership fee.

I had a look at the site. I was very careful to look at every page and I read the Terms and Conditions. The forth from last paragraph of a lot of boilerplate leagalese was a section called 'Use of Site and DealTime Membership' which had the following:
Users must purchase "Deal Time Membership" in order to use DealDay.com's services and features..... When a visitor/user completes the Sign Up/Registration process they are directed to a checkout page, where the visitor/user completes the signup process by inputting their Credit Card information, the users Credit Card is then charged the $99.99 Deal Time Membership fee......Please Note: Deal Time Membership costs are not refundable at any time.
This is a very predatory sales technique which asks for your credit card details without telling you upfront that it is about to charge you $100! - Nowhere else in the signup or information details is the $99.99 price of the service ever mentioned.
In addition, the site uses a lot of very high profile news sites (BBC, NYT, ABC etc) as testimonials and a lot of product logos, possibly without correct attribution/usage. I will be contacting them and informing them their names are being used in this way.
Any organization that does not make it CRYSTAL CLEAR how much the service is that they are offering is a SCAM in my book. It's obvious that this isn't an accident and the fact that they hide the price in the T&C and claim 'no refunds at any time' makes their site even scammier.
If anyone out there has been conned into signing up and can give me a screenshot of the Credit Card charge confirmation page, I'd be very grateful (send it to webmaster@scamdex.com).
Since you’re here …
we have a small favour to ask. More people are visting Scamdex and Scamalot than ever but advertising revenues are falling fast and we have no 'product' to sell.
And unlike many informational websites, we haven’t put up a paywall or membership barrier – we want to keep our site as open as we can.
So you can see why we need to ask for your help. Scamdex/Scamalot websites takes a lot of time, money and hard work to keep running. We do this because we
hate to see our fellow humans getting scammed out of their hard-earned money by low-lives.
