| Anonymous Sydney, New South Wales, Australia 2016-12-26 02:22:13 Classified Ads Scam Gumtree | +8 Gumtree Australia Fake "Buyer" (Non-payment of PayPal) On Dec 21, I received a text message response to an ad for a white gold and diamond gent's ring I had posted on Gumtree:
"Regarding your jewellery ad on Gumtree, what's the best price for it? Please get back to me via ccatryna0@gmail.com. I can't make calls because I'm on an off-shore rig and they always drop out." So I emailed her with the best price and received a response within about 2 hours saying:
"Thanks for your reply and I'm glad to know that it is still available for sale. However I have a few questions on the item you are selling:
1. I would like to know the reason why you're selling it?
2. Does it come in its original box?
3. What is its present condition and is it okay to be a gift?
4. Do you mind if I pay you through PayPal - I am willing to add some extra to cover the shipping because I am not local at the moment, I'm on a rig offshore and would like to purchase this as a gift for a very special friend to me overseas. If you don't have a PayPal account, you can make one at www.paypal.com. It's free and easy and guarantees transaction safety. Once you send me your PayPal email, I'll send you the payment as well as $90 to cover shipping via Australia Post Express Mail Service.
I would appreciate it if my request is considered and if you could please send a few more pictures."
I answered each of her questions and asked what other photos she would like. She responded with:
"Thanks, I would like to proceed with the transaction and payment. If you also want to proceed, get back to me with your PayPal email so I can make the payment at once."
I sent her the email linked to my PayPal and asked for an address so I could ship it first thing the next day. She replied with:
"I have sent the payment from my account. Please take note that I'm shipping the item to my receiver in China and here is his address below:
Name: TIMI AOKKI
Address: Chuan Mei Daxue
State: Beijing
City: Beijing
Country: China
Zip code: 100024
Phone: 15801431804
I want you to ship it via AusPost EXPRESS MAIL International (EMS) which is only a few days to destination so that he can get it as soon as possible. Also, as I have said earlier, it is a gift so I would really appreciate if you could wrap it with a gift wrapper and specify on it that it is a birthday gift. Please get back to me once it's been shipped. Please also go through the PayPal email very carefully so you'll know what to do next so your account can be credited without delay. Hope to hear from you soon. P.S. Please make sure you send the valuation certificate with it if you have it."
I received 2 emails from service@intl.paypal.com - the first saying that Rebecca had sent the payment, the second saying that a temporary hold had been placed on the payment until an Australia Post tracking number had been received and verified (which I could send to them as a .jpg by replying directly to the email). This was the first time I had been a seller using PayPal and all emails from service@intl.paypal.com looked legitimate, down to the links, headers, footers and every aspect of formatting other than the greeting which read "Dear person@email.com" instead of "Dear First-name Last-name". In hindsight, that should have told me that it was a scam.
On Dec 22, I posted the ring from my local Australia Post as stipulated in our correspondence. And sent the .jpg scan of the Australia Post receipt to both Rebecca and service@intl.paypal.com. I received a third email from service@intl.paypal.com saying that the tracking number had been received, was in the process of verification and that this may take some time due to it being the Christmas period. I received an email from Rebecca also stating that she had forwarded the tracking number to PayPal also and that once the tracking number had been verified, the transaction hold would be removed and the funds would be released to my account.

A person just tried to scam me for my gold ring with the exact same story i am reading above. Saying they worked on an offshore rig and wanted the item for a gift for a person in china and to pay money to a paypal account. I am so greatful to all those who have posted on this forum as i was already skeptical about this buyer and this confirmed they were a scam. Thankyou for saving me for a sale i would regret.

I had a diamond ring with evaluation worth $3,000 on gumtree and I got a text from a number 5426 but shown as his/her name (SKYLAR PIERCE), the text said please email me on treasuredpierce@gmail.com with your lowest price and I did. He replied asking why I was selling it,would it be ok for a gift and some more but them explained how he would need it shipped to Beijing, China and that he wasn’t local but was on an offshore rig. I said ok then gave my PayPal details to him and said wasn’t working so I had to do it again then said he paid it but the payment won’t go though until he has given him the tracking details. He was sending fake messages from PayPal which is how I figured it out because they said transaction from SKYLAR pierce is currently on hold until you reply to this email with tracking info. It was in a ring that PayPal didn’t use and had nothing but the text on the page. It was so fake. I also had a bunch of really good clothes on gumtree and he texted me the same again but on a different email, roten555@gmail.com. If he contacts you report him immediately he is trying to get you to post things then he won’t pay. I’ve reported him. You must report him immediately!!!!!

1,I would like to know the reason why you are selling it?
2,Do you have the original box for it?
3,what is the present condition of the item and is it ok to be a gift?
4,Do you mind if i pay you through paypal though i would be willing to add an extra dollars to cover
the shipping because am not local at the moment i am out of town on a rig offshore and i would like to purchase this item as a gift for someone very special to me at overseas. If you do not have a PayPal account, you can do so by going to www.PayPal.com and set up your account it is free, easy and guarantees transaction safety.Once you send me your paypal email account, I will send you the payment for your item as well as $90 to cover shipping via Auspost Express Mail Service.

Thanks.
Then we continued to talk and "skylar peirce" asked if I could send it to Beijing china to a person very close to them for an extra payment for express post, also asking if I could wrap the present and write " birthday gift" on the front I agreed and went ahead with it. I then brought my item into the post office to post to the address they gave as-
Name: RI PATO
Address: 102 CHAOYANG BEI LU,DA YUE CHENG
State: BEIJING
City: BEIJING
Country: CHINA
Zip code:100024
Phone Number : 15810576105
I then got an email from " pay pal" saying this
-You have received a PayPal Payment of $1,190.00 AUD from SKYLAR PIERCE.
A temporary hold has been placed on this transaction!
As mentioned in the receipt of Payment and as per the new PayPal Payment policy for international transactions involving huge amounts, we have fully debited the total amount (above) from the buyer's account which includes the shipping fees charges.

Your Account will be credited accordingly upon the receipt of details requested. It should either be sent to us in JPG format or the transfer details written out and emailed to us. Details such as;
I was stupid enough to believe this was actually pay pal. Then I proceeded to send the tracking number through and they replied saying the payment would be released to pretty much instantly. I waited for about 2 hours then straight away I got very very suspicious so I emailed them and they replied with saying that pay pal handles millions of transactions every day so it can take some time. I then decided to look up the email from pay pal, I checked the first email and it was clean completely then i checked another which was- text4mat@gmail.com which then led me to this website. I then absolutely lost it and sent them emails going off and telling them they weren't going to get away with this. I then this morning rang Australia post and I have managed to be able to intercept my parcel as it's still in the air to china as I speak and will land tomorrow and will be flagged. I then proceeded to email the "pay pal" and skylar pierce to let them know it will be intercepted and be sent back to me. No reply at all from skylar peirce but the pay pal emailed back this-
We have received your message along with the shipment tracking number and we want to bring to your attention that the tracking #(EJ223154646AU) has now been verified and its authentic, and we are now processing your account and due to the daily transactions in which PayPal handles daily, we will like us to give us a maximum of 72 hours(3 Working Days) to credit your account with the money Paid in by SKYLAR PIERCE.

Trying to stop me from intercepting it and to wait three days so it then can get to them. This whole experience has made me absolutely sick with rage, these scum of the earth must be stopped at once, something needs to be done because at the moment they are just continually getting away with this. I can see these scum have scammed a lot of others on this website so after seeing this I had to explain my story in hopes maybe we can get the word out about these people. They deserve a very severe punishment. Absolute pathetic trash.

I was selling my 1 carat diamond engagement ring on gumtree, after posting the ad I soon recieved a text message from "PHIL" asking me if the jewellery was still for sale and to have contact via email. I sent an email to "PHIL" at the email address that was given to me in the text message. The email was ph1llcna1@gmail.com. I told him that the ring was still available and I am asking for $10,000. "PHIL" replied to me saying he wanted to pay through PayPal and sent instructions on how to set up a PayPal account, he also told me that the ring was a gift to his daughter who lives in Beijing, China. "PHIL" also said he would pay for shipping and requested it to be sent by EMS. "PHIL" then sent me another email claiming that payment was made. I checked my PayPal account and the balance was $0.00 AUD I then called PayPal and spoke to a customer service operator who told me there was no available funds in my account and no pending transactions. I then checked my junk inbox and I had 3 emails from service@intl.paypal.com but had been forwarded by another email - text4mat@gmail.com. After speaking with PayPal and doing a bit of googling of the email addresses I found scamalot.com where to believe the same person has scammed or tried to scam others out of their jewellery from gumtree by using the name "REBECCA SCOTT"

"rebecca" is emailing people selling expensive jewellery on Gumtree offering to buy and advises they are on an oil rig offshore. They then send a fake email saying the seller has funds from paypal (email address the paypal emails are coming from is shipment_pp@mail2consultant.com) then sends another saying the funds are on hold until proof of postage then sends an email saying it takes 5 business days to verify the postal receipt and that after that time the funds are then made available which of course by the time you sit and wait your jewellery is gone and you have no money. I wasnt quite that stupid and decided to do a bit of investigating myself. When you dont pay the money you are then sent another email threatening to have legal action brought against you.
Ive reported them to the ACCC and suggest anyone else that reads this also does the same.

Same as the previous post. Posted a set of rings for sale. Very wary as I have seen something similar before.
She requested a discount. Then sent the email requesting payment via Paypal. Sending the Paypal link and really "Selling" how good paypal is, is a sure fire tip off.

21 Dec'16, I received an email message in response to an ad for a 18k white gold, diamond and opal ring I had advertised on Gumtree asking if the ring was still available.
I responded that it was and then received a reply from Rebecca Scott,
"Thanks for getting back to me, what's the best price for it? Please get back to me via ccatryna0@gmail.com.
I emailed her and received a response saying:
