| Anonymous Oak Grove, KY, United States 2013-03-14 16:43:13 Classified Ads Scam Paypal (paypal.com) | Posing as an interested buyer Jessica Davis sent a text message to my phone at 4:00 am on Wed 3/13/2013 inquiring about an item I have posted for sale on Bookoo.com She requested I contact her via e-mail \"to better discuss the item\". She wanted me to assure her that I would consider her my final buyer and she said she was ready to purchase the item for the price I was asking. She also advised me that her method of payment would be paypal, as it was the easiest way to send and receive money. She also said that She is an oceanographer, and because she had a contract starting today, she would need to arrange for a shipping company to come and pick up the item (a baby crib). She requested my address and e-mail address to send funds. She advised me to be on the lookout for a confirmation e-mail from paypal. I received a confirmation e-mail from paypal, which by the way, looked very convincing of the funds transfer. She then went on telling me that the shipping company was charging her $350 to pick up the item and ship it off to her, so she said she sent a pmt in the amount of $800 ($400 for the item, $350 for shipping co and $50 for other charges). All she needed me to do was help her get the payment to the shipping company VIA WESTERN UNION ONLY and send her the details via e-mail so she could then give that info to paypal so they could release the funds into my account, because that was paypal\'s policy. I advised her that I would not send any money until I saw the funds had posted to my account. She kept insisting that I do the western union transaction asap so the shippers would come get the item.
Something didn\'t feel right from the beginning, so I called Paypal and spoke to a Customer Service Rep. After asking me a few questions, we determined that indeed, it was all a scam. I really hope she gets caught!!!!! |
