| Anonymous Melbourne, Victoria, Australia 2013-12-10 04:04:07 Auction/eBay Scam Gumtree | +1 car for sale I had a car for sale on Gumtree and on the first night of posting it I recieved a text message on my phone asking if the car was still for sale and how much. then I recieved e-mail to say he was happy with the price $5-500 and that he would deposit the money to paypal site if I had one which I had to open anyway. he also asked why I was selling etc, then the other morning I recieved an e-mail saying that the shipping company wanted forward payment of $950 which he added to the sale price+$50 expenses and that I should forward this money to a shipping company in BEIJING CHINA. When asked he said he was working on an OIL RIG off the N.Z. coast as a Project Manager and that he could not send money via Western Union from there (by Internet). Today I asked for personal details to put on Transfer of Registration and he sent back conflicting info. 1.Name TERRY BRIAN. 2. D.O.B. 1956. 3. Adress. Pella House 71 Cavenagh street Darwin.N.T. (when googled Two different addresses came up.) 4. Phone. 0406758417 which has surfaced on your site Three times already. So when all this came up ALARM bells sounded |

We want to sell our car and therefore put upa sign with the price and contact details. When we were in Airlie Beach someone told us his friend in Cairns is looking for a car (after we told him we're heading to Cairns). We then got an email a few days later from a certain "Terry Lesley", he wanted to know if the car was still available, if we are the first owners and if the pics posted on gumtree showed the present condition. He then said he was okay with the conditions and the price. He would love to call us but as he is working on an offshore oil rig as a project manager and due to bad weather which caused the server to break down he cannot call us. We should pass him our names and email address and set up a Paypal account if we didn't have one already. We wrote back that we would either accept cash or he could send us the money via the normal bank account.
In the next mail he insisted on Paypal and had some other nice excuses why only Paypal works for him (all due to "the nature of his work"). We then googled "terry lesley oil rig" and an article about a Terry LESLIE (not LeslEY) showed up. And the we found the report above... We're definitley not going to sell the car to TERRY LESLEY!!
