Auction/eBay Scam
1 |  +5 Micheal Elliot trying to sell my car on gumtree and he claimed he was offshore and wanted my bank/paypal details to transfer money.. he said it was for his son and said hell add $300 just to take down the ad ... thought it was too good to be true and searched his name up and he is a known scammer |

I was trying to sell a futon sofa bed on Gumtree. Prt of the email exchange is shown below, but it looks like he is using the same technique as others are reporting:

He wanted to buy my sofa on gumtree, he said he was very interested and he would love to buy it for his cousin, so he asked me to take down the ad and he would transfer money to me via pay pal, then he sent me £345 on my PayPal (which was a total fake email for paypal) saying I have received £345. And now it's secure until I pay £245 cash into union western for his agent to pick up the sofa. Total scam, and he talked about having throat cancer and he was house bound.

My car is for sale on Gumtree, received a text via the Booksy service "Hello, I am inquiring about the car listed for sale? Kindly get back to me with details on my personal email only on mic.elliot12@gmail.com"
I sent an email thanking him for his enquiry and asking what details he wanted and got the following reply... going down the same route as the emails on this thread, and others.

You need to get back to me with your paypal email or bank details such as account name, account number and the sort code.

sailor wants to pay full money to surprise his son for gradualtion with not seeing car in the middle of march. Wants to pay me 300 extra and put it on paypal

i am very busy working all day, i am a sailor am presently on-board, i don't have access to my bank account online as am not with my credit card details here but i have my bank account link up with my PayPal account so I will be paying you through PayPal to your nominated bank account or better still is if you have a PayPal account ,please get back to me with your BSB and account details or PayPalaccount so i can proceed with the payment and contact the courier agent who will come to pick it up and deliver for my son.

Ok ill take ads down now. Ill get back to you. This car will be perfect he will love it. Would you like me to take more pics of it so that you are certain. It has a few light scratches but thays about all. The only reason im selling it is because i bought an 06 lancer and i have a bike so cant afford all the regos. This car will give him no problems at all
The engine is well looked after and will be reliable for many years to come. I promise. Well you put the money in my bank someone can pick it up anytime or i can deliver if its in victoria. Well ill await your reply. Should intake it off now? Are you sure? Would you like more pics or anything?

Hey micheal, i have just been reading on the internet that this procedure is exactly how scams go. If this is legit im sorry but just let me check in the morning with my bank what dangers there are by giving my basb and acc number out to somebody i don't know. Please bare with me til the morning.

Thought it was too good to be true and searched his name up and he is a known scammer. Please be careful never give your pay pal or bank details.
