Gumtree |  +3 Laptop scam I was selling my laptop worth 1000 AUD in gumtree. Got a buyer via email. He asked me about the condition and final price, and he was happy to buy it for his cousin in CHINA. Some highlights of those emails.
Thanks for your swift response.Have gone through your advert on Gumtree and I'm well pleased with all you've stated.In regards to the price it sounds okay.Happy to proceed with the purchase., i want it sent to my cousin Abroad as a surprise birthday gift through (Australia Express Mail Service) .Won't be able to come for check up due to the nature of my work,I'm an oceanographer presently working off shore at the moment.Have tried calling but the network so bad for weeks now.Regarding payment method,If you have paypal account, you can send me your paypal email address,or alternatively send me your bank details,my merchant paypal account can transfer to any of both account without delay.

Hello, I have just made the payment $1,200 AUD.I belief paypal should have notify you to this effect and what needed to be done in regards to there new security policy to finalize the transfer .Please check your email address for there Confirmation mail from paypal and i also added $50 to cover all shipping cost via Australia Express mail. I would like you to help me ship the item asap via Australia Express mail. I have received an email from Paypal that the funds have been deducted from my account and it will be credited into your account once you advise them of the shipment tracking number . Kindly confirm this and help me get the item shipped asap. Below is the shipping address:

He wanted to transfer the money via PayPal. I received the email confirmations from PayPal that the payment has been made and I WILL receive the money when I reply PayPals mail with the Postage tracking code.
Everything seemed legit. There were couple of moments that I felt this could be scam but didnt trust my gut.
Unfortunately I had no idea that this could be a scam and I mailed the package, knowing that I will get paid for it.
Im hoping that this Report will make any difference.

Replied to my Gumtree Ad, I gave them my email address and they replied:
Thanks for the reply, Actually i am buying it for my cousin as a surprise graduation gift and i will be responsible for the shipping charges via AUSPOST EMS to her address so that would not be a problem atall which means i will pay $50 AUD for the delivery charges. Let me know your final asking price of it and we can go from there and more importantly,I will like to pay you with paypal because its very easy, fast and secure to transfer money.. and if you don't have an account with PayPal you can easily set up an one by visiting www.paypal.com.au make any error on the Payment and to make everything okay with the both parties.

Contacted me via Gumtree Ad via my mobile number and I gave them my email address.
I copied and pasted their response (below) into a google search, and found others who have had the same thing written.

I always find these emails pretty funny lol, I googled his email address and found I'm not the only his tried to scam ...
