1 |  +15 'Oceanographer' Camera Scam | Gumtree | Paypal I got an offer for my camera, a Nikon D5200 with 2 lenses, from a guy called Ben Kendrick, an 'oceanographer' on Gumtree. He wanted me to send the camera to China for his son for graduating. He wanted me to send the parcel via Australia Express Post, and could only pay via PayPal. The supposed payment confirmation email was in my junk folder and from what looked like service@paypal.com.au, but when I clicked on the address it revealed it to actually be shipmenttrackers@accountant.com. The address he wanted me to send the camera to was as follows -

Posted my Ad on Gumtree to sell my desktop. Please be careful of scammers, especially Paypal transactions, check their account through Paypal to see if they exist. Check the actually email, the scamming Paypal email is paymentcrediting@accountant.com. My dumbass didnt know this was scam until i checked with Paypal customer service team. Firstly, the will never temporarily hold funds. And secondly, they would never ask for your tracking number. Thirdly, it is very odd for paypal to get you to reimburse payment in another form via google Play card.
This person Gumtree account is hna.

Actually i am buying it for my cousin as a surprise gift and i will be responsible for the shipping charges via AUSPOST to her address so that would not be a problem atall which means i will pay $100 AUD for the delivery charges, am okay with the price and you can get back to me with your PayPal email address or bank details for payment asap

Was selling a gaming laptop and she wanted to offer me 200 extra to take the ad off, the whole schebang. My dumb ass didn't think anything was suspicious until she sent the email of the PayPal 'confirmation' and it was empty. Upon clicking on the email address in my phone app I found the email 'shipmenttrackers@accountant.com', which I thought was kinda odd, so I decided to Google it just in case, which very luckily for me led to you guys. Thanks a bunch, folks, I nearly got a huge sum of money swiped, hopefully this helps somebody else too!

Ann said she was buying the camera for her daughter as a graduation gift.
the following was her response:

Response to sale of camera on Gumtree Australia.
Person by name of Ian Rudiger wanted to buy my camera $250 more than the advertised price to be sent as a graduating gift for his son Aki Rudiger who is supposedly based in Tasmania, but the eventual send-to address is in Beijing, China.
Specifically mentioned to send via Australia Airmail Post only starts with letter (LK and end with (AU).
Based on the link sent by "Ian", someone in Ellenbrook, WA, was scammed on 13 March 2019.

I first received a text message from someone asking me to send an email to their partner who was interested in the camera. The email was ottepwc.au@gmail.com
I sent an email and was immediately suspicious when I got the reply. 'Otte' offered to pay $250 MORE than the asking price if I took my ad down immediately, and he offered to pay $105 postage to send it to his 'kid in Tasmania'. This person sent me a text about the camera's I had for sale and asked me to email him instead of texting. He also wanted me to send him my PayPal email, but I got suspicious when he wouldn't confirm if he wanted to buy both cameras and if he was going to pick up the cameras so I googled his email address : ben243112@gmail.com and found numerous website saying this guy was a scammer, if you get a text from someone asking you to email the above email address in regards to your cameras ITS A SCAM DON'T REPLY!!
