Katty Moore Gumtree
 Scammer
  Information
Name:
Katty Moore
Email Address:
khym211@gmail.com
Country of Scam:
Australia (AU)
Sold a HP laptop on Gumtree, was contacted via text message by someone asking if it was still available, and can I please contact their partner at khym211@gmail.com as they wanted to buy it. So i sent an email saying it was still available, received a reply from "Katty Moore" saying she is an oceanographer working abroad and would like to purchase it for her cousin, Alex Smith, in China. I thought it sounded a bit strange but she was willing to pay the price I had asked for, including the shipping costs, and I didn't even think twice about it being a scam.

We exchanged emails back and forth and she became very pushy. I received convincing emails from service@paypal.com.au (there is no such thing, the genuine website will always be paypal.com) stating that a payment has been held until the item has been posted, and once the postage details are forwarded to the (fake) paypal email, the payment would be released to me.

I went to Australia Post and posted the item, sent the postage information to the paypal account, which replied saying the funds would be released, and went home.

When I got home I had an off feeling about the whole thing, so I googled the name Katty Moore. Sure enough the first google result was from Scamalot, detailing someone else who had been scammed by this supposed buyer. I jumped in the car, went straight back to Australia Post, and in the end managed to get my laptop back and cancel the postage to China. And then this person had the NERVE to email me asking what was going with the postage.
