I posted something on Gum Tree and received a response within minutes. When I replied with an email address I got a quick response which I have also posted. there were a lot of reasons listed why he couldn't come to look at what we were selling or why he couldn't come and get it from me, and he was asking for my details to make payment. Red flags immediately went up as soon as I read the message.
I have since responded and blocked his contact.

they are at it again - same spiel as described - but they like to have the courier costs paid by you despite pick up only - pretty stupid request playing on your sympathy that he transferred amounts via Westpac which is held there and will only be released if you pay those funds first. Waste of time to deal with those type of idiots - they should get a real job instead
Scam EmailAs per bank email which is similar to yours after I get the money transfer I was told that you will have to upfront the fee that I add to your money send and send them Bank transfer receipt details before they can release the funds into your account and the total amount of $1,800.00 including the pick up fee has been deducted from my account and i don't have access to it anymore so what you just have to do now is just go to your internet banking to transfer the $800.00 send from your own personal money to the agent address given to you earlier and send the Bank transfer receipt details to Bank customer care that send you the payment notification email and they will release the total amount of $1,800.00 AUD from hold into your account which have been deducted from my account already instantly ok i will look forward to read from you as soon as you are through with it ok thanks for understanding

Same deal have a car for sale on Gumtree as well as other places, got an email from Amir via Gumtree asking for my email address within an hour of posting the ad (Buyer-c8wkrt1vh4912@users.gumtree.com.au). After I reply with my email address this is followed immediately by an email from the good Geoff Facer and the spiel listed below:

It's now early October 2019 and this is still going on! Gumtree user name is 'Tim', and all they asked for on the Gumtree message was for my email address: "mate what is your attached email". I foolishly gave them my email, and got the following, and then follow up emails. I've sinced blocked their email address.

Same thing just happened to me with this Geoff Facer trying to buy something from me Gumtree.
He goes by the name Geoff Facer working in NZ.
I have also sent all these emails to Westpac Bank.

Acts like he is interested and will make payment before seeing item. Asks for bank details and paypal email etc. Don't trust this.
